2021 colt anaconda

2021 Colt Anaconda - The Colt Anaconda was reintroduced in the .44 Rem. Mag. is a worthy addition to the "snake rifle" line. Yamil Sued

Colt revolvers have a very special place in my heart. I grew up shooting my dad's 1969 Colt Cobra, which he carried with him until he died and I inherited. It is a real symbol of craftsmanship and reliability. When Colt started making revolvers again in 2017, I was really excited, and I've fired every model they've produced since. Earlier this year Colt reintroduced one of my favorites - Anaconda.

In the early 90s I had some really good .44 Magnum revolvers, so I ordered a 6-inch Anaconda in .45 Colt. It quickly became one of my favorite large frame revolvers. It is powerful, reliable and, of course, accurate. For sure if Colt releases a new Anaconda I will be getting one.

The new Anaconda is very similar to its predecessor, but has some important improvements. The 2021 Anaconda has been built with new materials and processes thanks to advances in manufacturing techniques and metallurgy since Colt stopped production of revolvers nearly three decades ago.

The new model is currently only available in the powerful .44 Magnum, which also uses the less powerful .44 specialty ammunition. It comes in two barrel lengths, 6 inches and 8 inches, both of which have a bright stainless finish. I chose the 6-inch version, which I think looks easier and more natural than the 8-inch version.

Some of the new features introduced with Colt's new line of hose revolvers include a user-replaceable front sight, a thicker top strap that is drilled and tapped to attach the scope rail, and a new adjustable rear sight. The Anaconda also ships with a rubber Hogue grip, which aids in cushion retraction. Even though Colt added these features to the new Anaconda, it has retained its original shape so holsters are readily available and since the grip line is the same, there are aftermarket options available from various suppliers.

My first impressions of the new Anaconda have been very positive. The fit and finish is excellent. The way the crane, for example, grinds the frame is extremely precise and tight. And when locked, it looks like the halves of the revolver are made from one piece of steel, not two. The fit is perfect.

The single action trigger pull is about 5 pounds and super crisp. The double action trigger is also smooth without grit. The Hogue's grip fits perfectly in my hand and allows me to adjust and manipulate the trigger, hammer and cylinder latch with ease.

The Hogue grip that comes standard on the new Colt Anaconda does a good job of absorbing the shock felt even with a full house 0.44 Magnum load. Yamil Sued

My first range ride with the new Anaconda was just a function test. I wanted to see how the new revolvers work in single and double action. Due to the current ammo situation, I took some of my personal load to the range - a few light rounds carrying a plated 240 grain projectile at 900 fps. The load was easy to manage and fun to shoot. I put the new snake through its paces, firing over 100 rounds at the MGM steel silhouette at 10 to 15 meters, in both single and double action.

Shooting hands off at this range is a blast—no pun intended. With this lighter load the Anaconda is perfect, stacking the rounds right on top of each other. Although this "soft" load is fun to shoot, it carries enough energy to bring down the target. I had to put a large rock at the base of the goal post to keep it upright.

One thing I don't care about the Anaconda is the sharp texture on its trigger face. It doesn't have to be sharp and a smooth trigger will feel and go better.

Now for the accuracy test. I know that this revolver is capable of great accuracy at longer ranges, but due to time and range limitations, I shoot indoors at about 20 meters. I use the Ransom International Multi-Cal Steady Rest, a machined aluminum, fully adjustable rest capable of providing a super sturdy shooting platform. The ammunition I chose for this test was the Hydra-Shok JHP 240 round Federal Premium. This ammunition has a maximum muzzle velocity of 1210 FPS with an energy of 780 foot-pounds. This is for sure

Due to the ammo supply, I could only shoot four groups of 5 rounds. The average group is 1.85 inches. For me it's a pretty good result and I'm sure that I can definitely do better with practice. One thing I can say for sure is that the Hogue grip is an amazing addition to this massive snake when shooting full-house .44 Magnum rounds. I have fired a similar load in other revolvers with all types of grips and I found this Hogue grip to be comfortable to hold and very effective at reducing anxiety.

If the stock configuration of this revolver is not to your liking, you can customize it in several ways. One thing I did was a set of Pachmayr small presentation handhelds, which are like a blast of nostalgia from the late 80s and early 90s. That's the grip style I had on my original Anaconda and while Hogues may be better in many ways, I like Pachmayr for sentimental reasons.

Another special touch I would like to add is the base of the scope. While I wouldn't use a revolver for hunting, I wanted to see what the Anaconda could do with the optics mounted on it.

After all the shots I did with the new Colt Anaconda, I can only say that I absolutely love it. It takes me back to the early 90's when Anaconda was running free range shooting ranges in America. I think this new model, with its modern features, is a huge improvement over the classic models from the 1990s. Whether you are a target shooter, hunter, recreational shooter, or just looking for a self-defense pistol, the new Colt Anaconda is definitely a good choice for these tasks and more.

At 6 inch barrel, the Colt Anaconda has a very nice profile and excellent natural pointing characteristics. Yamil Sued

Review: Colt Anaconda Revolver

44 Magnum caliber Colt Anaconda revolver returns to the market, in two barrel lengths, 6 and 8 inches, in 2021.

With no fanfare - just a Facebook post - Colt has announced the return of the Anaconda revolver in .44 Magnum, back in production due to the increased interest in this gun generated by the public with the many requests received by the Hartford-based company.

In the second half of the 20th century, it was still unclear whether the future of the sport and service pistol would be the semi-automatic pistol or revolver. While semiautos are reasserting their role as military pistols, most law enforcement agencies, especially in the US, rely almost exclusively on revolvers. These were the years when brands like Colt and Smith & Wesson were market leaders and competed with each other on revolvers. The turning point of the year can be identified with 1955, when Colt launched the legendary Python .357 Magnum revolver, while Smith & Wesson responded with the .44 Magnum 29 model. Over the years both companies continued their challenge with mixed fortunes. , while interest in revolvers slowly but surely began to decline over the years. The latest sensation came again from Colt in 1990, with the introduction of the .44 Magnum Anaconda revolver, a project that was rather warmly received by a market that had then been reduced to a niche, dominated by newcomer Ruger with its Redhawk and Blackhawk's. Constructed entirely of stainless steel, the Colt Anaconda is a very traditional revolver, with a double-action trigger, six-chamber cartridges, and with the classic vented rib barrel that characterizes the Python, Boa and Diamondback models. The original Anaconda was available with 4", 6" and 8" barrels, and it appears that about a hundred were made with the odd 5" barrel. It is also available chambered for .45 Colt caliber. The production of the original version was stopped in 2003.

The new Anaconda is very similar in appearance and design to the previous model, with a proprietary stainless steel, and will be offered in 6 and 8 inch (15-20) barrel lengths.
