Beetle Bailey Comics - September 4th marks the 70th anniversary of Beetle Bailey's comic book debut. Mort Walker created Beetle as a college student, but the comic book first adopted his design when our hero was drafted into the army during the Korean War.

Of course, our lazy hero never left the camp ready for battle. The "Beatle Bailey" excellently captures the experiences shared by all who serve, and emphasizes them for comic effect.

The first Beetle robbed Bailey in 1950, and less than a year later, the comics were drafted into the army.

The cast has remained broad. Sergeant Snorkel, his dog Otto, Private "Killed" Diller, General Halftrack, and Miss Buxley's secretary walked almost the entire length of the lane. The Camp Swampy may have been upgraded a bit over the years, but the version in today's strip will be instantly recognizable to early Beetle fans.

Seventy years, equal to 25, exposes the DL. Most were published under the direction of creator Mort Walker until his death in January 2018. The business has remained in the family, and now his sons Greg, Brian and Neil Walker do striptease every day.

Leading business magazine Beetle Bailey is published in one of nearly 800 newspapers worldwide. Syndication is still widespread, but a new generation of fans are enjoying it on the Kingdom of Comics website. You can read the daily feed for free, but a $19.99 annual subscription gives you a free experience and access to the site's comic archives with dozens of spoilers.

Greg, Brian and Neil called us to talk about their father and came up with their "big brother" Beetle. Here are some general facts.

According to Brian Walker, the Beetle Bailey was designed to represent more than just military life. “Our father always said that the “Beatle Bailey” is not just army trophies. It's a bunch of funny people who can be thrown into an organization with a certain job. It might be work. It could be a school, it could be a fire department or a police station. It's just that there are those who play a certain role in this organization. And indeed, where does the humor come from. There is no one who is specific to the army."

Greg says that Death isn't sure the strip will survive after the war ends. "Beetle" was born during the Korean War, and one day, the one above, dad created "Hello and Lois" because he really didn't think looting in the army would have much appeal. During the Vietnam War, we surprisingly didn't drop papers, and people still seemed to like it."

Brian believes the key to the comic's success was keeping the Beetle close to home. “We had letters from people who wanted to send us to Iraq or Afghanistan. My father always said, "I keep him at Camp Swampy." There isn't much humor in combat. The beetle has always stayed out of danger."

He adds: “We keep basic training because what everyone does, not everyone goes to war. Some become secretaries, or stay at home, or occupy offices all over the world, but all continue to work in their first offices. This is what someone said to someone. "

The Fabuleous Fifties

Brian also notes that there was conflict in the family in the late 60s. “Greg and I were definitely anti-war protesters during the Vietnam War. I did have heated discussions with my father in those days because he was an army veteran and relatively conservative.
